Museum Exhibit to Feature Dave Thomson Collection
The Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum was the recipient of a large collection of Mark Twain books and memorabilia from the estate of Dave Thomson. Thomson’s interest in Mark Twain started at age 12 and developed into a passion to collect anything Mark Twain-related.
A special exhibit of a sampling of Thompson’s collection is being showcased in the auditorium of the Mark Twain Museum Gallery, 120 North Main Street, Hannibal. The display is open 10:00 am to 4:00 pm daily, except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
The collection includes first editions of many of Mark Twain’s books, two original Mark Twain letters, and photographs of Twain. Hundreds of editions of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn are included along with more than 200 foreign language editions of Twain’s works. Busts and statues, glassware, stamps, anything related to the author are included.
Thomson worked at Disney Studios and had access to the latest technology. He enhanced and colorized several original artwork pieces, and these files are part of the donation.
The exhibit entitled “Dave Thomson Collection” will be presented through January.
