Is Huckleberry Finn a Racist Book?
Audio Transcript, voiced by Curator Henry Sweets
“The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is Mark Twain’s best known anti-racist book. In it he attacks the teachings of the white society that held blacks as property. In the book the enslaved Jim is raised to Huck’s equal, challenging the stereotypes of the day. The book remains controversial today as many of the issues raised have not gone away in the years since the book was written.”
