How NOT to Create an Exhibit

Audio Transcript, voiced by Curator Henry Sweets

“This display was started soon after the stone museum building next to the Boyhood Home was opened in 1937. As materials were donated, they were placed in these swinging panels. We are leaving this display as it was formed, as an example of now NOT to display artifacts. The cloth items have been pressed so long they will split along folds. Metal pins holding pictures have rusted. The unmistakable staining of adhesive tape shows as dark stains on many paper documents. Here we have captured a display out of the past as a modern lesson in how not to store and display artifacts.”
